IE7 Beta
Today Microsoft released beta copies of the next version of Windows and IE7! It’s actually not all that exciting. Well, not all that exciting for we Apple users.
A new Apple Store opening is much more exciting!
My first impression was, “Why, oh why are programs still using the registry to store information.” I suppose IE needs to because it’s not just a browser… it’s your whole system. I prefer programs that store their settings in XML files.
The installation only took about five minutes and I didn’t receive any errors. The new look is a bit cleaner than the old IE. The first thing I noticed in the UI was the addition of tabbed browsing and only a back and forward button by default. There also seems to be a built-in Google search box. That seems odd since MSN is trying to regain a footing in the search-world.
IE prompted me to reset Windows but I’m a rogue installer and didn’t.
Hopefully, the biggest difference in IE7 will be compliant HTML and CSS support. I didn’t fool around too much yet other than to visit Google and about five other sites that didn’t appear to have changed. Maybe that’s because I didn’t reset? I’ll mess around with it for a few days and see what happens. If I don’t blog soon… it means that IE7 destroyed my computer and probably caused bodily injury to me.
Looking for more screen shots?

We can only hope that IE will be compliant! As for an apple store opening, nothing that MS does can compare to that!

Eric,
I was unable to find your email on the site, so this is my ony alt. I am having serious issues programming some CSS bases sites and having Firefox and IE follow the directions. Since you’re a fellow RIT’er I figured I would ask you first. If you have semi chops at CSS and cross browser jazz, toss me an email, I would love to show you some of the code for a second set of eyes.
Cheers
