Apple Store Opening
An Apple store finally opened in Rochester, NY this past weekend! Like any other Apple store opening, people lined up early in the morning to be the first ones into the new store. It could have been the thrill of a new store, the boredom of a Saturday morning, or the free XL t-shirt that says “Apple Eastview,” that made people start lining up in the mall at 6:45am.
Joe and I arrived at the Eastview Mall at about 8:20am and were 25th-ish in line. That secured us a spot in the first wave of people able to enter the store! We saw a lot of people (dorks) that we knew including some professors from RIT.
At about 9:30am 20-25 Apple employees came out of the store and started talking to everyone who was in line, chilling, and handing out entries to contests. It was really neat how every Apple employee spoke to you like he/she was your best friend. After hanging out for about 15 minutes, they went back into the store for final preparation.
Then, finally, promptly at 10am the lights went on, the doors opened, and the cheering and music started! It was such a blast being one of the first people in the store! I gave double high-fives to every employee on the way in (they formed a hallway of employees to walk through). It was my dorkiest dream come true!
Joe and I walked around the store for a little bit and checked out all of the cool things, all of the things we wished we had and all of the things that we already had. We bought a bluetooth Mac keyboard and then left to get our free t-shirt. As we both walked out of the store two more people were allowed in. The line was a few hundred people long at 10:30 when we were leaving the mall. Wow!

We would have been there earlier if someone (eric) would have waken up! I guess the fun night watching rubber ducks racing down the canal and drinking w/ 2 good friends was a little much for him!

Bah! We were in the first group of people to be in the store — that was good enough.

Oh, man, I can’t believe I missed that!
(I am enjoying being walking distance from the Bellevue Apple Store, though–my kids went to three free “camp” workshops there last week.)
